Der Deutsche Martin "Dieblein" Sander stand den Interview-süchtigen Kollegen von dx.ampednews.com für ein Interview zur Verfügung. Dieblein ist Anführer der Return of Mana
Mod. "Return to Mana: Legacy of the eight Elements" ist eine inoffizielle Forsetzung der Seiken Densetsu / Secret of Mana Reihe, welche einer der besten Adventures / RPG Serien nicht nur auf dem SNES waren - optisch ist der Mod auf jeden Fall mehr als interessant.
Das Interview hat das Kampf- und Magiesystem, Diebleins Vorgängerprojekte wie z.B.
Escape from the Darkness und die Mod-Perfomance zum Thema, auch die Eignung der Source-Engine für dieses Projekt wurde angesprochen:
Zitat: Patrick: Why do you believe the Source Engine would best cater the needs of Return to Mana?
Martin: The Source engine is one the few very old school engines, meaning you have limited ways to implement procedural production. But the other way round it is very easy to learn and you instantly focus on small detailed areas instead of huge (empty) envirounments. Because its so easy to learn you can basicly controle the whole workflow form animation, modeling and leveldesign and with that controle almost the whole visual aspect of a game on your own. The engine is fast, but not suited for massive outdoor envirounments. Thats why outdoor mapping ends always up being a challenge because you have to use design and visual tricks to illustrate small gameplay areas feel like huge worlds you discover.
