Einige Accountdiebe nutzen zur Zeit den Mangel an Counter-Strike: Source-Bots aus, um in den Besitz von Accountdaten zu gelangen. Derzeit kursiert eine Installationsdatei im Internet, das, anstatt Bots zu installieren, beim Start Accountname und -passwort verlangt, um die Daten dann weiterzugeben.
Taylor Sherman von Valve hat schon auf das Problem reagiert und eine Warnung gepostet, nach der man seine Accountdaten außer bei Steam-Login niemals preisgeben solle:
