This is based on a comparison of Gabe Newell's recent statement that they were hoping to have a release candidate to Vivendi in August, and Lombardi's "product on store shelves in the fall" statement. In fact, Lombardi echoed Newell's "RC in August" statement and followed up with a guess at the on-shelf time frame. Since duplication, packaging and distribution can take weeks (especially for a big game like HL2!), and since most people consider August/September to be the cusp of Summer and Fall, both statements line up perfectly, and this is not new information.
