3.5) Changed and new maps?

Lots of maps were not only face lifted , but changed in their structure. You can see this at best on the territory control Map d_dome, which still contains basic elements from the old version, but there are arranged in a total different manner. This will confuse lots of older player. I myself sometimes still find me wondering why i am at a specific point totally different from where i wanted to go. Nearly all maps were improved due to the possibily to camp the enemy landing zone, which was commonly known as “LZ camping” and kind of annoying in b1.2. You can see this particularly in the unpopular map d_palace.

Known but also confusing.

There is another completly new map. I’m talking about the „Territory Control“ Map d_citadel. Furthermore this is the only map not made from the official GW mapper, but from the coder hisself. The map is well balanced and it’s hard to make a fast win, even more than in other TC maps the fight about the middle points (2,3,4), but especially 3 can take some time with balanced teams.

3.6) Map Overviews

For a better orientation in the maps the GW Team included overview maps. These overview maps show not only the map itself in a 2D view, but also the players of your own team.
This is why they are really interesting for Clan players. Useful and very effective when you i.e. hear a sound and you don’t know if it’s the enemy or an ally. So you know if you can throw a grenade in that direction to welcome the enemy without the peril of harming you teammates (if ff on).

3.6) HUD and Crosshair

Also new is the HUD which is held very simple but fulfils its purpose very efficiently. The new crosshair for instance shows via color if you’re aiming at an enemy or a friend. Furthermore it shows you if you’re walking, proning, crouching or if you are in a situation where you can’t aim very well. This is very useful when you’re accidently still standing on a ladder. Another new feature is the red cross over wounded teammates which is only shown to the medic class only. This makes it much easier to be an effective medic.

The crosshair fades to green to when aiming at a friend and the red cross above his head tells me he is injured and needs my help.
